Writing 50,000 words a month about ourselves is one thing. Writing a fiction novel is very — but not entirely — different.

November 2003 brings the fifth annual National Novel Writing Month — "think quantity, not quality," a kick in the pants for the aspiring (or lazy-and-daydreaming) writer. And a number of web writers (online journalers, diarists, bloggers, escribitionists, personal storytellers, et cetera) hope to feel the pain.

To "win," they must produce an average of 1,666 words of fiction a day. So, if you don't hear much from these brave souls during NaNoWriMo, don't panic.

Ready or Not... the journalers and personal bloggers taking the literary plunge (those with "Read It!" links are letting the world read as they write!):

To add your site to this list (which is independent of the webring member list), just e-mail us your name, URL, and geographic location. We especially love it if you're novel-writing in public — if so, be sure to send us the URL of your novel-in-progress! Note that like the NaNoWriMo gurus, we prefer real names to aliases.

The Ring... ring o' ring 'round the writing rabble:

It's easy! Submit your site, add the code to your page, and e-mail us so we can plug you in. Just like that, you'll be able to tour a chain of member sites, and witness a wide range of creation and panic.

Just be sure the above link code (the graphic, obviously, is optional) appears on the same page you register... when folks tour around the ring, they need to be able to (eventually) jump back on the line to get to the next stop!

[ INO50000 Certified ]Prove It: Journalers & Bloggers NaNoWriMo INO50000 Certification™ returns (with apologies to the ISO), for those who absolutely, positively, must prove to someone that they wrote 50,000 words in 30 days! While Chris Baty promises an automated submission and word count feature will be introduced to the NaNoWriMo site this year, we know than an independent confirmation of your completion of this remarkable undertaking can be valuable. So we're offering online journalers and bloggers special validation of their insanity. Find out more!

Destinations... other places to go:

We hope to again build the most comprehensive list to independent NaNoWriMo groups and resources on the web (last year, our link list was ultimately folded into the official NaNoWriMo site). If you know of any group — regional NaNoWriMo groups, topical or thematic mailing lists, anything — let us know about it!
