Magic Island
Ala Moana Beach Park
Honolulu, Hawai`i

A carved peninsula making up about a third of the 100-acre Ala Moana Beach Park at the west end of Waikiki. With several picnic benches, shade trees, and a paved 1-mile divided biking and joggng path, it's a favorite with local families. From Magic Island you can admire the great views of the yacht harbor, a popular surf spot offshore, the West Waikiki skyline, and Leahi (aka Diamond Head). Parking is always tight, and the adjacent three-mile beach is frequently crowded it's usually the closest "locals" get to Waikiki Beach. At the far end of the peninsula, there's a crescent of beach that's enclosed by a huge sea wall, making a great spot for little kids and surf-averse swimmers. |
