I worked with and for Steve at PBEC (where I worked from October 1998 to February 2003). He had started there a few months before I did, and when I left, he was the only staffer remaining who'd been there more than a couple of years. In addition to a rich history of trade and policy work, Steve also has Hollywood credentials, including an appearance as "Suspicious Goon #3" in "The Pelican Brief" (watch for the elevator scene). From his official biography: Stephen Olson is the Director for Policy Coordination and Communications at the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC). Mr. Olson coordinates the policy activities of a number of PBEC working committees. Mr. Olson is also responsible for senior level communications and media affairs. He produces media advisories and press releases, and coordinates press conferences and media briefings. Mr. Olson participates in the planning and organization of PBEC's annual International General Meeting (IGM). He plays a leading role in developing the program agenda and session synopses, and assists in the identification and recruitment of key speakers. Mr. Olson's career began in Washington DC as an international trade negotiator. He was a member of the U.S. negotiating team for the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations. He has served in the Executive Office of the President of the United States (USTR), and the U.S. Department of Commerce. Mr. Olson has also been in private practice as an international trade consultant. He has been accredited by the New York Department of Economic Development as a certified international trade consultant. |
