HD: Manoa Geeks
Manoa Geeks from hawaii on Vimeo.
The February 2008 gathering of Manoa Geeks saw a record turnout. Hosted at Oceanit in downtown Honolulu, about 50 local technology and web gurus and fans came together to talk shop. Adobe code development, the semantic web, the Microsoft-Yahoo deal, and the Apple MacBook Air were among the many topics discussed.
Manoa Geeks is the brainchild of Aaron Dragushan of Wondermill. The first gathering took place in March 2007 at a coffee shop in Manoa (hence the name), with a handful of people. But soon, it outgrew most meeting spaces and is now hosted by local companies hoping to make connections with the talented and creative minds that attend.

It should look great on an Apple TV.

HD: Aoki's Shave Ice
Aoki's Shave Ice from hawaii on Vimeo.
President's Day 2008 was a spectacularly beautiful day of sun and blue skies, considering the usually grey weather of February. I also unexpectedly had the day off from work. So after a visit to the neighborhood pool, the family and I drove up to Haleiwa for shave ice. Aoki's (66-117 Kamehameha Hwy.) is located a stone's throw from the much more hyped Matsumoto's, but it's our preferred destination for the cool treat.

HD: Hawaii Democratic Caucus
Hawaii Democratic Caucus from hawaii on Vimeo.
The Hawaii Democratic Caucus was held the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008. Prior to this year's hotly contested race between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (who was born in Hawaii), the state's record turnout for the primary caucus was 4,800 people in 1988. Last night, over 36,000 people turned out to participate. Long lines everywhere, chaos and confusion in several locations, and handmade ballots had to suffice for many when the printed ones ran out. In the end, Obama received 76 percent of the Hawaii Democratic vote, versus Clinton's 24 percent.
