July 17, 2006:Cars: Among earthly posessions, few things are fawned over and personified more than cars. But can Cars, the latest animated release out of Pixar and Disney, translate that material lust into genuine love? February 9, 2005: Spiderman 2: Spiderman 2 is a good film, but it's a weak superhero flick. April 23, 2004: Home on the Range: Disney is just going through the motions with this farm flick, but there's a chuckle or two to be had. March 12, 2004: 50 First Dates: Walrus vomit aside, this set-in-Hawaii love story is a fun, surprisingly warm gem of a movie. February 23, 2004: Intolerable Cruelty: Never taking anything too seriously, George Clooney cinches this sharp, quirky romantic comedy. February 23, 2004: Seabiscuit: The story was inspiring. The cinematography was gorgeous. The acting was sharp, if a little stiff. An Oscar contender for sure. But for all the acclaim, Seabiscuit falls flat. February 23, 2004: The Limey: Though very nearly too stylish for its own good, Steven Soderbergh's Los Angeles revenge tale still grabs you. By the closing credits you'll care enough to be frustrated, but you'll like the movie enough to forgive. February 23, 2004: Wings of Desire: A beautiful, thoughtful, meandering film, Wings of Desire doesn't so much tell a story as it does carry you along on a half whimsical, half sobering tour of humanity. December 21, 2001: Monsters, Inc.: There just may be an actual review here soon. Stay tuned. December 21, 2001: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: There just may be an actual review here soon. Stay tuned. December 21, 2001: Ocean's Eleven: "Ocean's Eleven" is not an important film. But it's witty, slick, and fun. December 21, 2001: The Fellowship of the Ring: The worst thing about this movie is knowing that you have to wait twelve months to see what happens next. May 30, 2000: Mission: Impossible 2: "Mission: Impossible 2" soundly kicks off the blockbuster Summer 2000 movie season. May 30, 2000: Frequency: If there ever was a good Father's Day movie for the ages, this is it. April 14, 2000: X Files: Fight the Future: It's like a great episode, but much bigger, much longer, and thankfully, at least as much fun. April 14, 2000: The Truman Show: It's been called the next 'Forrest Gump.' That's unfair. Jim Carrey's latest is much, much better. April 14, 2000: Six Days, Seven Nights: There's so much to not like about 'Six Days, Seven Nights.' But you just may walk out smiling. August 22, 1999: Mystery Men: It seemed like a film formula that just couldn't lose. |
