Donki
Japan's Don Quijote department store chain (a.k.a. Donki) opens its first
stores in the U.S. in Hawaii, taking over Daiei locations (which, of
course, took over Holiday Mart locations in the '80s). The retailer is
known for cluttered, colorful, chaotic stores, and today's grand opening at
Kaheka Street sure lived up to that image. There was live entertainment
(Jake Shimabukuro), great deals, and a huge crowd.
