Sick Mac
Not long after my first crash and my first "archive and restore" trip to the Genius Bar (something Disk Warrior could have handled, if I had it), my iMac is acting up again. An invalid extent entry that Disk Utility (off Startup Disk 1) and fsck can't fix. So, it's back for more drastic measures. Shudder.

Every Mac owner should have a copy of Disc Warrior. Saved my ass once already after my iTunes library and XML files got corrupted. If you're still under Applecare, Apple Store is ok... if not you may want to go see Big Mike at Mac Mouse on South Street.

My beloved iMac (of considerably older vintage) is currently in the hands of Mac geniuses (genii?) who are solving issues related to our recent ugly weather incident -- or at least I hope that they're solving the issues. I am living in abject fear that the lightning bolt which felled a major tree right next to our house didn't also fry my HDD. *gulp* Time will tell.
I'll think good things for your iMac if you think good things for mine!

Will do, Dreama. The solution ended up being a complete zero-write format and reinstall. I lost a whole heap of data, but strangely, I'm at peace with it. At least until I remember something I really needed.
It's my fault, anyway. I think my iMac can sense me coveting a MacBook.
