'Burbs, or categorized lists of online journals, were all the rage for years (and I should know!), back when the community was small enough to have a shared identity but large enough to foster smaller groups. Today, of course, there are groups of escribitionists (bloggers, diarists, journalers, etc.) for every demographic down to lesbian albino midget eskimos, and thanks to tags and blogrolls and other social networking widgets, 'burbs are largely irrelevant. Still, I was a member of a few, and here are the 'burbs I proudly hosted, once upon a time.
-
Parents, spouses & siblings getting into the act.
-
The infamous directory of Hawai`i diaries.
-
Journalers with live (and almost-live) webcams.
-
Journalers who use ICQ instant messaging.
-
Online journalers participating in National Novel Writing Month.
-
Reel Journals: Diarists at the Movies.
