About the 'About the Author'
In Medias Res survived online for more than six years without a single page, let alone a section, devoted to its author. My cop-out answer would be that everything you needed to know about me could be found in what I wrote about my life and my oft-muddled thoughts. So, visitors have long been able to read sometimes embarassing details about the other people in my life, but could not get any self-contained summary of the very person responsible for this hypertext mess. Eventually, though, I had to concede that even I gravitate toward the obligatory bio page even the bio paragraph on other personal sites. And at least two people had written me just to say they'd read more than a handful of entries presuming that I was a woman ... and that was a mess I was not interested in revisiting. Besides. A big ego that's overcompensating for neurotic insecurity is still a big ego. How could I resist? But, if I am to offer gratuitous "about me" information, I'm going to do it right. In fact, I'm going to overdo it. It's what I do. |
